Empower women. Empower communities.
A volunteer-run association helping Iraqi, Arabic-speaking and newly arrived women and their families settle and thrive in Melbourne.

Since 1998
The first Iraqi women’s association in Melbourne, registered in 2002.
Volunteer-run
Every program is organised by women of the community.
Free to join
Membership costs nothing and is open to everyone.
All ages
From toddlers’ playgroups to our seniors’ group.
Our vision
Women are the vital links in the chain of society. We exist to empower active, capable and self-managed women within our communities.
Programs for every stage of life
Many of our programs reach women who are isolated at home by language barriers or a new way of life.

Playgroups and family programs
Weekly playgroups for toddlers and their mothers, where newly arrived families meet others and feel at home.
Youth group
Run by our young people: sport and swimming, school holiday camps, fashion parades, café culture events, leadership courses and a youth magazine.
Health and wellbeing
Sessions on women’s health and the services available, with a focus on cancer awareness explained in a culturally sensitive way.
Learner permit program
Study and support for women preparing for their driving learner permit, a big step towards independence.
Walks, picnics and outings
Local walking groups, picnics and excursions that help women get out, stay active and discover Melbourne.
Seniors’ group
Our much-loved grandmothers’ group brings older women together for company, conversation and support.

Every Ramadan
Our annual fundraiser iftar
Year after year the community gathers to break the fast together and raise funds for Iraqi orphans overseas.
Membership is free and open to everyone
Women from all communities are welcome to take part in shaping and uplifting our community.
